Smoothing
I have been tuning for about the last 12 years thanks to RBob, Grumpy, this board, and some other great people like Craig and Mangus. Spent quite a bit of time on TBI w Xfire first using 7747 then onto EBL. I'm now doing
LT-5 motors which is still SD so lots of commonality w TBI.
One thing I have never really used is the smoothing available in either EBL or TPRT. Most of the smoothing I have done is manually.
Anyone use smoothing features regularly? If so, do you have a process you use,
what factors, and how are your results?

Re: Smoothing
i don't use it a lot, but i do use it occasionally, mainly when i've messed with a lot of the table im working on like when starting with a fresh map.
i normally set it for very little change, 0.9 or 0.8 with Absolute checked.
its quick and saves time when you've made a lot of changes. once i've gotten the map pretty close to what the motor wants, i don't use it.
you may be able to use it to quickly make changes to most of the map by just picking a few spots in different areas on the map and setting them above or below what you think they should be and highlighting the whole map and then smooth it. i've never tried it that way so i have no ideal if it would be worth it or not.

Re: Smoothing
Denn,
I'll need to look at that. Whenever I have used it it's been with a small factor
(ie .9 or .95) after I have done the majority of the map changes.
I really just want to clean up some of the rough spots that I didn't get to w a scan. I have found that even w manual smoothing, the feel of the motor really becomes more consistent and less "choppy" and "jerky" if I can describe it properly. I wonder if it helps in terms of emissions or fuel economy.

Wow, after reading that post, it seems the author wrote it to work by highlighting just one cell at a time.

Re: Smoothing
when i use it, its always been on the areas i was working on plus 1 or 2 more rows/columns that i didn't touch.
Dominic, i don't know if it would really help with emissions or not.
i never tried it when i tuned my car to pass emissions. i ran it thru the dyno test and made a data log and then worked the areas it was at during the test.
for fuel economy, i use hiway mode.
i would guess if you had much of a spike up or down it could cause hiway to turn off sooner than it should.
it does help with driveability, without spikes in the maps it helps the motor run much smoother. even pretty small spikes at lower loads/RPM can be noticeable.
