Contemplating buying Moates APU1 AutoProm package but have this question for starters.

When watching the tutorial videos he put on youtube they mention that the emulation unit can burn 28 pin chips but not 24 pin which is what I have in my 1227477 ECM.

Is there a way to update my 1227477 to the 28 pin chip, or will i have to buy separate hardware to burn my 24 pin?

My current engine build desperately needs a tune and I am really wanting to do this myself. Seems like a very good piece of equipment, but might be useless if I cant burn a chip with it for my ECM.

Re: APU1 AutoProm with 1227477
Solder a G2 adapter in the 1227747 ECM so you can use a EEPROM, both are sold at Moates when you order the AutoProm.

Stock chips are UV Erase, new chips are click erase in the burner.

Is there a 28 pin prom ECM that is compatable with my harness that would eliminated the need for me to buy adapter? I work in a salvage yard so ECMs and such are easy to come by for me.

Re: APU1 AutoProm with 1227477
Nope.

$35 and a half hour to solder is the best thing you can do for tuning these. Don't follow the instructions on Moates, solder the G2 directly to board, then when done and install a chip the cover will still bolt on.

Re: APU1 AutoProm with 1227477
I prefer to solder a socket to the board, so that if, for any reason I need to remove the adapter, or replace the ECM, the only thing left behind is the cheap socket.

I also make my own adapters so they are lower profile than the Moates adapter, and fit under the cover.

EBL or AutoProm? Any opinions on these two setups?

AutoProm = DIY hardware you fill in the blanks.

EBL = Hardware, software, no chips needed and a great reputation including support!
