will these connectors work to datalog with Tunerpro RT 5 ?

I bought these many years ago, expecting to do chip programming, but can't seem to get a datastream with my current laptop using TunerproRT or Freescan. Having trouble finding tutorial on how to adjust the settings to communicate. Any help/links would be greatly appreciated. There is a jumper on the serial end of the ALDL cable, how do I know which is 10k and which isn't?

I've got one that still works but no Cig lighter power? I think that is for old unpowered USB ports?

10K on all cables I've seen is when jumper is hooked up, once your logging you can see in Items is ALDL mode is Disabled which means no 10K and good data.

Here's how to install a cable and set it up in TunerPro RT.

yep, thanks, got that page already, but it doesn't tell me about my cable..... you can put the jumper in any one of 4 different places..... so I should just 'try ' it and change everything till I get a data stream??? nothing ever shows in the hardware part of the acquisition tab...

A cable is pass through, not a device. So it won't show up as hardware.

What ECM? Some did need jumper at all.

I think this is the cable you have? It shows what the jumper does.

Re: will these connectors work to datalog with Tunerpro RT 5 ?

If that db9 to usb cable is anything like the one I bought for the dell I was using to run tunerpro, it's not that great.

First problem was figuring out which usb port was being used as a "com port" and make sure that it was the same as tunerpro was looking for. Then, in the port settings, I had to reduce the baud rate down to 2400 or something like that.

Mine came with a driver cd because it did show up as hardware. Biggest issue was that it did not work like a typical usb item that you can plug in and remove several times without having issues. It seemed like you could plug it in, the drivers would install and you could run it, but if you unplugged it, the best way to get it running again was to restart the laptop. This was using vista, and who knows what else might have been going on with my laptop, so your mileage may vary.

Thus the search for a laptop that had a serial port.

I ended up getting a Panasonic CF-29 toughbook with a touchscreen that works very nicely.

is is by IO GEAR, says it works with up to windows 7, and is up to 230kbps, the computer guy at micro center said there have been only 3 different serial to usb chips ever made, and this is the one that specs out to work with a Tech II (from GM), so I am hoping it will be adequate for this....

IOGear website;

http://www.iogear.com/product/GUC232A/

shows there being an installation cd with it. Chances are it has drivers on it for that cable.

Here is the page for the drivers for that cable:

http://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GUC232A#display

I have two of those cables, one is a "trendnet" and the other is an "I/O crest", both of which require drivers and neither work very well.

I'd try it and see if it works.

Like I stated, I had to play with the port settings also to get mine to work, when it would work, but I was using vista also.
