89 camaro v6 to v8 tpi swap
I have an 86 iroc with a good engine and tranny.
But; the body is crap. I just gotta lead on a very nice '89 RS with no motor and tranny. I was gonna restore my iroc, but i need a complete interior, body work etc...
I have a 350/hsr/cam/headers (recently built motor and tranny,,less than 5000 miles) runs fantastic,,fast..
The man wants $1600 for a really good RS,,,can probably get it for less.
Question,, wonder what kind of ecm/electronics are in the RS?
If it is a 165 ecm that would be so cool. I have prom burning equipment.
I guess i could swap "my" 165 into it and all would be good.
Im already running a '89 PROM in my 86.
Maybe swap sway bars, posi carrier, disk brakes. etc... all for less than a paint job on my beat-up iroc.
Any thoughts?

Re: 89 camaro v6 to v8 tpi swap
The '89 V6 car will have a different ECM and EFI harness. At a minimum will need to swap the ECM. Should be able to swap the '86 TPI harness in place of the '89 harness. However, there may be some slight differences between the interconnecting pieces.
If you stay with the '89 harness you will need to re-pin some terminals at the ECM harness connectors.

Note that there is a re-pin guide in the sticky's of the DFI & ECM board here. That is to go from the V6 EFI harness to the V8 harness and ECM.

Re: 89 camaro v6 to v8 tpi swap
thanks bob, just found out that the car has a 350 tbi installed that won't start.
But; the car has title problems...
Whole deal sounds to good to be true, i will attempt to find out what the title problems are. The engine has less than 5000 miles since rebuild.
Car won't start, he replaced the ECM, still won't start.
Sounds like an easy fix for me.
Title problems are bad news tho..
Lotta nice parts if it is not stolen or something like that.

Re: 89 camaro v6 to v8 tpi swap
new info, i went and looked at the car.
It is sweet, recent paint job. Car was running one day and nothing the next.
Injectors will not fire; he replaced the ECM, got mad and quit working on it.
Title is not much problem, he has bill of sale.
Just no title.. Previous owner's father gave her the car and never got the title changed over to her. She sold the car (on a bill of sale) with no title.
Title search comes up clean.
No pulse to the injectors means????
I have had 3 tpi cars,,,but NO tbi cars.
Any thoughts?
This is a complete car!!! 92 iroc wheels, new tires, recent paint, trunk pulldown works, good dash pad, good console lid, no broomstix needed trunk/hood.
Torque arm rubber is bad, all new bushings swaybar, lca etc..... new shocks.
Trying to fix the clunk from the torque arm.
I have a complete tpi setup from my iroc. I changed to an HSR.
To tpi this car; i guess i will need an ECM and wiring harness.
What about the fuel pump, surely tbi has a low pressure pump with NO return.
thank you for reading.
any thoughts would be appreciated.
mike
Also i would HAVE to at least fix the TBI to get it running..
Just "because".... personal challenge...

Re: 89 camaro v6 to v8 tpi swap
Not really, there are other ways to go using the stock harness and TBI ECM.
