hesitation - cure?

the car hesitates a bit (like when a carb'd car doesnt get a big enough pump shot). I routinely drive at 5500 - 7000 foot altitude, so should I increase AE or could there already be too much fuel for the decreased air availability at this elevation? Maybe I need to lower AE?

Could be either however the car will give you an indication. On moderate to hard accelleration if you get a pop through the intake it is lack of ae. Or if car just feels like no fuel being delivered it is lack of. If too much AE it will gurgle sounding but wont die. It will just be sluggish. Add AE in increments of 5% and see how it goes

thanks ronny. this is a TPI car, so are we still talking about a 'pop' thru the intake?

I would imagine so. Audible. When I first starrted tuning it would be a loud pop with way inadequate AE. TPI should be no different if excessivly lean on AE. I also experienced a lag like no fuel being delivered with no audible pop.

ok, well this has been apparent for the last couple of weeks, with no discernable 'pop'. It just isnt responding like you'd expect from a car with my mods. so if i'm reading you right, its not overrich, its over-lean - right? So should I back off on the AE?

Re: hesitation - cure?

I dont know. I would due an educated guess as to which way to go. Then add or subtract 5% in increments and see if car is responding as you would like.

When I started tuning it was on a heavily modified TBI car. I had no idea if what I was doing was correct. But I suspecteed AE was lacking and I added as stated. I bet I doubled AE after adding 5% more countless times. I just sucked up AE and wanted more. Cold cold plenum I had and cool environmental temps with no IAT control.
