code 51 with moates g1 adapter
Hello, I've been a member here for a while but rarely post; mostly just absorb information. This forum helped greatly while building and tuning my 86 Iroc. I have a problem tuning my 86 vette and i figured I would get the most help here. It has the 165 ecm. I'm using moates g1 adapter, 27sf512 chip, and burn 2. I also have an ostrich. It's worked for the past year but now it sets a code 51 and seems to be in limp home which with the cam will just start and sputter a bit. With just the memcal inserted in the ecm like stock it will work fine with no codes. With the g1 adapter and chip with custom arap bin it has code 51. I've tried a different chip with no change. I've tried the ostrich with no change. I've tried different bins which used to work. I just bought a new g1 adapter with no change. At this point I'm at a loss. Any help is appreciated. Thank You

What is a C 51? If a G1 is a zero force piggyback spring loaded adapter I had an issue with it losing connectivity only crossing railroad tracks(studder bumps).....

Re: code 51 with moates g1 adapter
code 51 is listed in my factory service manual as faulty memcal which i assume to mean the ecm cant read the chip or bin. My g1 does not have a zif socket. the chip pushes in with some pressure. I don't know the actual name of the socket. I was sure it was the adapter considering the ecm works with just the memcal and it doesn't matter whether I'm using a burned chip or the ostrich. Although looking at the adapter there isn't really much to go wrong.

Are you sure you're installing the EEPROM, and/or the ribbon cable for the Ostrich the correct way?
Also is the MEMCAL that you are using with the G1, matched in cylinder count to what is programmed on the EEPROM?

Yes, the notch in the chip lines up with the notch in the socket. The first thing I tried when I encountered this problem was to use one of my previous bins that I had no issue with. I've burned close to a hundred chips for this car since putting the cam in and this is the first problem I've had. The memcal is stock for the car and does match the bins.
