Any way to test WinALDL Cable?

I finally got my motor installed and running, but I'm having trouble getting WinALDL to work. I've checked and rechecked my cable against the schematic and all appears to be correct.

Here's my info:

This is a transplanted ECM (see sig), so it's possible that I've overlooked some wiring problem. SES light appears to function correctly (flashes 12 when not running).

I tried constructing the cable exactly as Jonas shows on his page, but I got nothing. I'm using a laptop to connect to ECM, and I found that voltage between pins 4 & 5 is only 8.5 v, so i wired the +12 to come from battery instead of laptop. Still nothing.

Occasionally, when cranking, I will get a value in the MW2 cell (usually something high like 255). Other than that no other cells have any values. Sensor data page doesn't show any data either - all zeroes including voltage.

What kind of voltage should I see across pins 2 & 5 when connected to ALDL? Any other suggestions? ( I will try it on my brother's truck 7747 as soon as I can get him over to the house)

Try it on your brothers car. That is probably easiest.

Ok, just spent some time w/ my brother's truck and the cable works on his truck. Hooked it to my '8746 and nothing. I keep getting code 51 Loose Eprom code thrown, but after 20 mins of reinserting and burning new prom, it still shows up. I'm going to check the circuit board to see if possibly a trace is broken or something.

Would a loose cause the software not to work? Any other suggestions?

For those of you interested: Finally tracked down the problem. I'm using a free editing program from incoming on DIY-EFI titled "gm8746". Sometimes it doen't calculate correct checksum. Calculated it manually, and burned a new chip. WinALDL works perfectly. Excellent program Jonas, thanks.

Great that you found the problem.
