Can someone tell me if this chip is an EPROM (UV erasable) or an EEPROM (electrically erasable)???

Do you have it in front of you? It has to have a little "window" in the middle of it to be UV erasable. By the # I believe that one should be a UV and not "EE".

It is not a Flash Prom. The proper flash prom that works for our cars is the AT29C256. There are no "27" series Flash Proms that I am aware of. Also, Flash Proms generally only need 5 volts (or less), 12.5 would be an eprom (my guess) or possible a prom (program once) if there is no "UV Window" in the middle of the eprom or under the "silver sticker" which usually covers the window.

I have 2 questions,How much and what eeprom to use instead of the uv type(I use now). Can someone suggest a good place to get a pc programmer used.I'm going to buy one new if I can't find one. It's just saving maybe $50 would give me enough for a few eeproms

AT29C256, about $6.00 each. Since they can re-burn them MANY TIMES more than an eprom, you won't need as many.

27 indicates eprom, 28 is eeprom, not sure about 29
