Chip or Not

My friend has an 88 Iroc 305 tpi, 5 speed with the following mods:
ram air,k&n,no screens,airfoil,pleneum/slp runners/edelbrock siamesized,A.F.P.R,MSD Cap/Rotor/Box,8.8 wires,platinum plugs, 1 5/8" edelbrocks,high flow cat,3" flowmaster and 3.42 gears.

He was wondering if this is causing his car to run lean and if it is should he get a chip now or wait for cam and heads which will be a while. Or can he just turn up the fuel psi, I think he is running 42 psi now.

He does not want to get into chip burning

The only way he'll get the right chip is by doing his own.
Kinda like buying a Holley and never changing jets, or not bothering to use a timing light.
