Best for real-time emulation

Is it the ostrich? I am tired of burning, testing, rinse repeat and I think the ostrich does that?
It looks like you plug the ribbon into the socket, then somehow the ECM can read via the ostrich from your computer? And if you tweak a setting in tunerpro and save the bin, the ostrich picks it up and the ECM reads it immediately? Confused, need a demo. Moates doesnt have much on the process on his website.

Eprom emulators are used for eprom based development and EFI or ECU work. The emulator plugs into the socket where an eprom goes and looks just like the eprom to the computer system. Changes to the content of the EPROM's memory space is immediately available to the processor. No need to reboot or restart the system.

Re: Best for real-time emulation

Ostrich II is awesome. Yeah, it makes like WAY easier when doing new bins in rapid succession.

When I was doing all my tuning, I'd have TP RT going with the Ostrich II, and I'd just pull over to the side of the road, make a change (without even shutting off the engine), hit upload, and after about 5 seconds just keep on driving.

It does just what the name suggests, it "emulates" an EEPROM such that the ECM reads off of it just like it would an ordinary trip.

The emulator + the WB O2 sensor were easily the two biggest things that really propelled me forward in tuning capability (aside from this DIY PROM message board that is).

Sweet. So hook it up to the computer, load TunerPro, watch data, then make mods realtime... Can you save the mods that you made and then burn to a chip later? So you are making changes, find what works best - can you save what you did to a bin, then when you get home, load that bin and put it on a final chip?

Sweet. I don't think I need a speedbooster do I - both the car and truck have 27C512 chips

Re: Best for real-time emulation

It’s been along time since I’ve used my ostrich. I didn’t have to use the socket booster. Looks like it’s more targeted towards the 747 tbi ecm.

Not sure what a booster is, but I don't use one on my 7730 with 27S512's...

Tuned is right... yes you can save your bin from the ostrich and burn it on to a chip when you're done.

Re: Best for real-time emulation

I use Ostrich 2 on my LT-5 constantly. The problem is it makes doing changes to the tune so easy that u r never done. God I remembee the days of erasing eproms and burning a new cal. At most I could do 2-3 changes in a day.

I was too! To the point I have my HP Tuners tuned PCM in my Express van setup with real time tuning.

I also brought out my old AutoProm the other day. I had lost the ALDL connector and turns out my AutoProm was a dinosaur. Craig or Craigs staff went out of their way to find me a new ALDL cable for my old AutoProm laying in their inventory! I have never had anything but great customer service from Moates.

I can top that... I actually build a platform for my laptop so I can have it in the car at all times....

Yeah I blame them for my addiction... if it wasn't for all the knowledge they make so readily available for us, I wouldn't be suffering from this tuning addiction!

Damn you guys!! lol...
