New to tuning !! 85 iroc 305 tpi

I'm just getting around to my 85 iroc it has the 305 tpi engine no upgrades at the time but I am looking to add some bolt-ons here and there as time goes on .. it runs pretty good has a slight hesitation on quick acceleration ... But a goal of mine during this project I really want to dig in and get my feet wet in learning to tune these cars .. I've been doing my research ,reading alot ,picked up Jeff Hartman's book , reading alot of articles on the tpi motor etc...looking around at different emulators and burners . but for starters I wanted to make sure I'm getting off on the right foot ... my first few purchases I have planned are
1) Apu1from Craig moats ,along with adapter((( or is something else recommend)))????
2) I downloaded tunerpro is that a good 1 to start with?
3) looking at getting some wideband o2 sensors ,seems like ppl say that a must have
((((will this get me going ????? )))))

IMO the best upgrade you can do to get started is the 870 to 165 ecm upgrade.

If you going to the point of using a emulator with other bolt on mods you might consider Dynamic EFI ebl p4 and go map instead of maf.
Tuner pro rt is a great program but very little support for $1f.
Your ecm can be changed to run sst eeproms instead of 2732 but it’s a slow baud rate ecm.

If you do decide to go with the 870 ecm here is a good deal to get you started.
you should still get a xtreme aldl and cable 1.

thanx for the feedback ... switching Ecms seem looks like its well worth it after reading the links .. I'll have to do some searching for those parts as well

You can also go with RBob's EBL system and do away with the MAF sensor and associated wiring. After having tuned with both the 165 and the EBL I much prefer the EBL system. And RBob is very active here and super helpful plus there are MANY users of his system here:

For a beginner it does some self-tuning for VE tables, etc which is quite educational.
