Eeprom

Hey guys,

Whats the story on the EEPROM's? (these are the electronically flashable ones right?) I haven't been able to find to much info on them and did a search, if this has been covered extensivly I apologize just point me to the thread. Anyways My question is are these erassed in the burner? Just burn all 1's or all 0's to it or something similar? They cost more? where can I get some? and finally are they compatible with '165/730

Yes, they are erased when you reprogram. I bought mine from Arrow Electronics (arrow.com) for $4.53 ea., part # Atmel AT29C25612PC. I have a 165, so what I did was fill the buffer with 00's and program, then set start address to 04000, end address at 07FFF, load bin to buffer and program. Leave it set this way and when you burn another revision just load buffer and hit program, it programs right over it.

For me this was one of the best posts explaining how to use the 29C256 eeproms.

I haven't tried it using the pocket programmer method but combining the two bin files using the dos prompt couldn't be easier. Follow either example as both will work and you'll be good to go.

I am ready to order some 29c256's, went to arrow.com and found that $19 shipping, and $11 for handling was out of line. Is there a place that has reasonable S+H charges?

I think you can get them from several sources, but most will have a minimum order qty., or S&H charges. Get a few people together to meet the min. order, that's probably the best way. Whatever the cost I guarantee you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

the eeproms are good for around 25,000 write cycles so you have alot of burning to do to wear them out

I have mentioned this before order the chips as samples from Atmel you can get one or two (thats all you need) for free no shipping costs or anything

www.atmel.com has them
