Strange $6E ALDL Connection Failure

Hi Guys,

I have a strange problem with the 7165 ECM and the $6E mask.

I can communicate with the ECM when using a stock AUJM BIN. I programmed the code into an EEPROM.

After some “tuning” of the BIN parameters, the ECM will not communicate with TunerPro RT.

The same hardware was used for all programming steps.

Any ideas?

This does not appear to be a hardware issue.

Best Regards,

Bruce

PS:
Never seen this failure mode with the 7730 and the S_AUJP mask.

What bin parameters did you change? If there are a manageable amount, you could do each change one at a time and see which one causes the issue.

Is this in real-time emulation with a ribbon cable? They are prone to interference - wrapping it in tin foil can sometimes help.

Re: Strange $6E ALDL Connection Failure

Datalogging issues with $6E have been common. Not sure why. Sometimes get it to connect and log fine for awhile, sometimes it wont or only connect for a few seconds.

or are you saying it will always connect with stock bin? Like after programming new custom bin, and losing ability to connect, can you go back to stock bin and get it to connect again?

Re: Strange $6E ALDL Connection Failure

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help.

I found the problem.

The TunerPro RT XDF file did not have the Checksum plug in configured.

So the ECM failed the Checksum evaluation that occurs at power up.

This would only be a problem when an original BIN is modified and the Checksum option is enabled.

Lesson Learned:

After downloading an XDF, completely validate the accuracy of the file.

I usually check the parameter conversions against the hack. This is the first time for a Checksum issue.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Best Regards,

Bruce
