initial spark advance

currently base timing is 6btdc. got a mail order tune and its programmed for 12 degrees. should i set my base timing at distrib to 12 now? does the distrib and programmed initial spark match?

Yeah, base timing in the tune should match the setting at the distributor with the EST plug disconnected.

You really should discuss this with the tuner. Perhaps (Likely) it is a hack job and was intended as a crude way to globally retard the timing by 6 degrees. Supercharged car IIRC. Be careful!

Yeah be careful. If the tuner calculated your compression levels, and knows what octane you are relegated to at the pump in your state, then yes, set your Base Timing to match his/her referenced Initial. If the tuner didn't do that, and just pulled 12* Initial from out of his @ss, then be careful.

Like others said, confirm with tuner. If they don't match on purpose, it's to pull 6* across the board from commended SA. Yes they have to match, but they have to match to what the engine needs.
