AT29C256-12PC Where else to look/ How about splitting a tube between a group of us?
I've been searching everywhere for these eeproms and no one has them. Digikey is out of stock on all the AT29C256's. It says it's not a regular stocked item so you have to place the order for a tube of 14 at $3.xx each. On top of that it says it wouldn't ship until approx. March! I've seen some people saying they got their's for around $5 each. If that's possible where else can I go? I tried E-Bay with no luck. Maybe I searched it incorrectly but none the less I got nothing.
I did find one guy at a company who will sell them for $11 each but I have to buy 3 at that price and then add shipping on top of that. I don't want to spend approx. $40 on the chips but if I have no other choice I guess I'll have to.
Would a few people be interested in splitting up a tube of 14 and each taking 2?

Let me check at home, but I believe that I have 5 AT29C256 chips let from when I organized a group purchase earlier this year. I will check tonight when I get home and post an update. I believe I also have 2 ZIF sockets left.

Try www.pios.com. They were $4.40 apiece plus around $11 shipping. That was overnight delivery though. I tried all the shipping options on their webpage and prices were all the same.

Thanks JJ63, if nothing better turns up(which I doubt will) I'll go through them. It's the best deal that's come up so far. It also seems to be the only place that has them in stock and is willing to sell them individually.
After making many phone calls I spoke to a woman at Allied Electronics and here's the story she gave me on the AT29C256 series of eeproms. She said that item has been Red Flagged and that meant the manufacturer, Atmel, is only selling those eeproms on a limited basis. She said that any company currently selling them is most probably selling them from their in house stock which was received before Atmel started limiting the sale of these chips. She didn't say why these chips are being limited but only that they are. This would explain why if you place your order with Digikey they are expecting the ship date to be around March and will only sell a full tube of 14 pieces at a time. They also don't carry the item as regular stock due to limited demand on them. At least that's what their site says.

I just placed an order for 20 AT29C256-90PC through www.pios.com. I'll have them on hand next week I guess if anyone wants some. The price was $4.40 each plus the shipping and tax. Total cost to me delivered was like $5.50 each, fairly reasonable.
I don't know what postage on one of these would be, but you guys are welcome to see this as a group purchase and get some from me at that rate.

If anyone is interested I have 8 chips and 2 ZIF's left over from my previous group purchase. Chips are $4.20 each, ZIF's are $7.75 each and shipping and handling in US is $1.75.
