So I'm working on my 87 Camaro IROC ECM 1227165 MEMCAL ACXT. I won't bore you with details of why and how, but long story short, I downloaded the MEMCAL using the TunerPro RT.
So I compared the data from my chip to the exact file I downloaded from Gearhead-efi (same ECM and ACXT)....which is NOT a match. Something is not right?!?!?!?!? Oh yeah, I am using the $32B XDF file.
Here is mine:
and here is the one I downloaded from Gearhead:
Besides the outrageous temps for fans...my main question is???? THE INJECTOR FLOW RATE!
I hope someone can shed some light on this, some sort of explanation?
Now kicker #2 is, I bought another MEMCAL for same ECM but it's for a 1988 LB9 305 Camaro, EPROM AKFS. I downloaded that data and guess what?
It matches exactly to my original data....I mean the injector flow rate is baffling me....not sure what to do with this now?
BTW, I am getting CEL codes and one of them is 51 but that's another story.
I downloaded the data to check if it was corrupted or not.....so is it? Is the AKFS corrupted also in the same way? The odds of that are impossible, so what gives?
Anyone with any info....chime in
oh yeah...lastly....the spark vs RPM vs Load chart looks like this from my MEMCAL hahahahahah
When you’re doing a read are you using a hdr1 ? Are offsets correct ? With chip in the burner you can verify chip to buffer to compare data. Sounds like a bad read.
as far as the code 51 have you tried a different 1227165 ecm ? It’s not a real common thing for a chip bit flip but can happen you will see the checksum won’t match. But sounds like a bad ecm over a prom.

Thank you TP for taking the time to read and answer my post.....
I used the TunerPro RT to read it and save it....Honestly not sure what HDR1 is, but if it's a hardware question, then I used Moates' gear. My first try at this and not by choice but necessity. I found it to be extremely easy actually, especially when you got time to burn and learn (I retired at early age)
Yes, a new/used 165 ECM is on the way and matter of fact should be at the door today....it comes with a MEMCAL ABTT (88 Vette) so I will def read it and see what those fuel parameters look like....I've seen other BIN files from F-Y cars and they look standard...the 20 #/HR or 23/24 #/HR so we will see.....
ABTT file from gearhead:
I will read it and compare to above...hopefully they match. After that, delete the VATS, change the fan temps, 9th inj delete and we gonna send it!!!
The hdr1 is a header adapter to put under the memcal to read the proms bin. I’ve seen cases where this can mess up the data in a read. If offsets are wrong for the 27c128 data will looked messed up as well.

oh i see....I read it with "burn2" from moates....when I get the ECM, I'm gonna read that EPROM and reread the one I burned yesterday to see if anything has changed.
I've double and triple checked if all the chip prongs were properly seated in their proper seats and grove pointing right way....all was 100%.
So let me ask ya...if I get screwed up data from the EPROM I get with the new ECM, should I contact moates and tell em the issue or is there something I should look for, fix or try different hardware? 🤞

i understand you used a burn 2 but what were the chip offsets ? You used a hdr1 or unsoldered the chip for a read ?

ill be home in couple hours, I'll make a screen shot of what I'm doing and yes, I unsoldered the chip from the original MEMCAL board and purchased the GP1 ZIF socket....so it grabs the chip pretty good. At least in my opinion....
Update...
I just read more info ref the offsets...it makes total sense. I did not use any offsets cause I was under the impression the software would do it automatically for the user. I mean, you set physically the chip type, you'd think software would know what you got in the buffer to burn, Right? Great, can't wait to get home now.....
My gwad, you don't even know how much I appreciate your knowledge and patience!!! Thank you for pointing out those little important things sir
A zif is great for swapping tunes. I’ve seen failure with long term use so really avoid them after a tune is done. If it’s a moates g1 the zif comes off and just use the dip. Loading a 16k file then do a read Chan change offsets in flash and burn not sure about the tunerpro software.
Success 👍, btw if you’re upgrading bin make sure your fan sw is the same setting as your original bin. No or nc
Yup....I did. I went over and compared all parameters with all 3 different 305/F-car data tables....4 times! Even on the 4th time I found a discrepancy and fixed it....but yeah, with your help, we got this resolved. Amen, put this to sleep I hope.....mailman should've been here 2-3 hours ago....lordy, always when you're waiting on something important!!!!
hahaha ....this is the funniest thing I've seen for a while! I opened this reply on my phone and all I saw was the picture! For a second or two, my new ECM was gone! Wow 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Its 7:45PM on Friday evening....My ECM traveled exactly 5 hours from Los Angeles to Las Vegas (300 miles).....I live in Las Vegas. They had the package almost 12 hours and still not at my door.....You gotta love USPS! Last time I ordered oil from FCP Euro, it went from Arizona, to Vegas, to Washington and 2 days later showed up at my door step in Vegas again.....I hope the ECM is not taking a scenic route again!
It's Sunday....checked the tracking and like I said.....YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS UP?!?!?!?!?!?
Again, I live in Vegas, so it's sent from Fresno to Sacramento to Los Angeles to Las Vegas then to Bedford Park Illinois????? I didn't know I moved?
Monday I'm going to the post master....this is like the 3rd time in 8 months.....
The other 2 times this happened, it got to me but in like week n half later hahahaha....like they know I really need it ....and yeah, of course I'll keep ya posted sir
It looks like the issue was at LAS VEGAS NV DISTRIBUTION CENTER . Idk how a sort facility can mess up a zip code and send to a completely different part of the country. You weren’t kidding about usps mess ups .
2 ecms on the same day 😝, let me know about the one I sent
Yuppers....yours got to me in couple days and the other in 10 days, even though they both had about the same travel distance....gotta love USPS ahhahahahah
Thank you again for hooking me up with an upgraded ECM....at leat it's a piece of mind now
Quick follow-up with my original problem with the car, not USPS, that will never go away.
I literally stumbled on Mr. "@Tuned Performance" on eBay and bought the revised version of the "165" ECM, being the 16198259.
I plugged the EPROM in after burning the new program in and car came to life...she's purring like a kitten....somehow the roughness went away, starts faster and yeah, actually starts now etc.....It was worth the upgrade/change. That's all I really wanted, but with this problem I've learned so much about ECMs and BIN files. I've programmed/coded the EPROM to my specifications and the biggest of them all were the fans. Now the ECM controlled fan turns on a tad later at 203*F and off at 187*F and my primary fan kicks on at 200*F and off at 185*F via temp switch. The thermostat opens at 180. I live in a very hot climate so I will test this set up and see how she likes it.....
Glad I had the ecm needed in a superseded number. Thanks for the update it worked out . I’ve found 89 based tunes really work out bugs on older maf tunes especially if doing say a aum 86 based tune upgrade.
This morning it was time....time to do the smog test again, which she failed twice after I brought her home from OHIO 9 months ago....and after all that work and part updates and upgrades, proper tuning....she passed!!!!!!
I have never been more happier in my life....welllll, I have but today, this is it....I'm on top of the world!!!!
Conclusion.....replace parts with OEM GM brand and try to get best of the best ie plugs and wires, distributor parts etc....and I still think that there was that ECM and EPROM problem showing up as having 1.07 lb/HR injector flow???????? WTH? The bad part is....2 months ago, smog place charged me $30 for the test...today $50?!?!?! WTH? But with the PASS, I would've paid $200!! So happy
