First question (cheapest eproms)
First question (cheapest eproms)
Well not really my first question, posted several months ago and got locked, I was nitroscj then but forgot password so now i'm ducmon900. I think my post was in regards to the differance in a 350/305 prom. Anyhow the tpi jeep runs pretty good but I think it would be fun to make it better so here is my first prom burning question......Wheres the best and cheapest eproms? I've been doing some researching and see I can get them at arrow but they have high shipping, or jdr but I see they forgot someones order before. I would like to get my flash eproms and zip socket same place if i could. I seen another place in a post but can't remember what it was.

Look for electronics surplus.
They are good for about 10,000 write cycles.
I generally go for batchs of 25 and get em for $1.50, just gotta look around

Make a post on "Does anyone have a spare AT29C256 Flash Prom they want to sell"?
A number of guys have recently bought a "batch" and probably have some "spares" they'd be willing to sell in "onsies/twosies" plus shipping. As this is "equipment" unique to Prom Burning, we do allow posts on bartering to "slip by".
I think a couple guys may have a ZIF socket available too, though I tend to favor Digikey for those.

I've found ebay is good, just do a search on the part # of chip you are looking for, I haven't gotten 25 for 1.50 like Grumpy, but I normally pay 5.00 for a batch of 10. This seemed great to me as the first few I bought I bought new ones for 5.00 a piece. Some chips (like the cave man 2732 my 85 uses) cost more used surplus because people who restore old arcade games from the early 80's get them. The 27c128 and 27c256 are really cheap and common.
I'm buying a batch. I figure I might need extras since I'm not very good at soldering. I called insight, I can get them for 4.40, I forgot to ask about zif sockets so I will call again tomorrow and hopefully they can get them, and everything will arrive at once. I did a lot of callin around, I found one place here in michigan that had 29c256-15 but I figure if i'm going to spend the money I'll get the quicker ones. Couldn't believe the rediculous prices on shipping at some of them. Well now i'm off to set up a paypal so I can get an akm cable. thanks ken
