Danger's of burning a chip?

OK, here's the deal, I am THIS ClOSE to purchasing the prom kit. I have a few concerns.....First, I hear a lot about different 'Hacks" and I have no clue how to use a "hack". I have a Cisco CCNA, Network+ and A+ cert, but have little OS experience. A lot of the vaiables are greek to me? And I do not know what prameters to change and what the stock parameters are such as injector pulse, integretor, BLM ( i have learned a bit about BLM)..ECT.... Will my Craig Moates software give me a foundation of what my stock chip prameters should be to make a base line for burning a chip? Also, a friend of mine warns me not to do it? He says that I run the danger of running lean! I need to lean my injectors because i am running svo 24lb injectors, my BlM via the xp240 was reading 108-118BLM at cursing speed, not WOT.

So, how do i find and use "hacks"
Were or how can I find the stock prameters interms of the chip settingss PE VE>>>>>>?
what do i need to do interms of knowing if i am running lean?? outside of purchasing a wide ban///// BLM INT O2SENOR VOLTS,
ETC.......

Chips are no more dangerous then setting the timing or changing a jet in a carb.
Read up on the subject matter and you'll become aware, It Ain't No Big Deal.

Hacs are documents where all or most all the tables switchs and settings are defined. They represent months of work. There are some that have been public domained.

Commented code is the above PLUS the operating instructions, that allow you to see what is really going on.

I agree with Bruce. Tuning an eprom is no different than setting the jets or advancing the distributor - you just do it differently with eprom burning, but you accomplish the same thing.

With the BLM/INT values you obtain while driving in part-throttle (at various load values), you can determine how rich or lean you really are. For WOT, I tend to use my "part-throttle readings" as a base and then tune based on performance and plug readings. (Too many people forget about the value of plug readings).

Based on your currently BLM values it sounds like you are excessively rich. I generally "lock" my Min/Max constant for the BLM to 128/128 and then I basically "disable" PE (via the TPS table) so I can push virtually "all the way" on the throttle while cruising up a long hill (dyno hill) to get my BLM/iNT values for high load (which is remarkably close to WOT).

Finally, for PE, I start by adding fuel via the "PE %Change AFR via RPM" table to get a "theoretical" 12.6-13.0:1 (based on having almost perfect 14.7:1 when not in PE), and then fine tune based on performance and plug readings. I don't have a WB O2 Sensor yet.
