Which program to use?

I have been kicking around the idea of a laptop for a scanner and
getting into burning my own proms and was wandering what kind
of software is good for scanning and what kind of software is
good for burning proms.

Also, how fast of a laptop is needed, I have seen some older used
ones pretty cheap.

And lastly, is there any advantage to a laptop setup over my
Snap-On scanner for showing live data?

There is tunercat and winbin. I use winbin because I am cheap and it is free. It does have some problems related to misinformation in some ecu files. You kind of have to be a little more careful with the freeware. I will also recommend Craig's scanning software. It works good for TPI. Win ALDL for TBI scanning.

Just enough to run the minimum OS required for the program you wish to run. Craig's runs on DOS which means it runs on almost anything. I don't burn chips from the laptop.
