This is for a 90-92 TPI chip. I took off the blue cover (the one with the four small clips) and now I see the actual PROM chip along with an almond colored circuit board. I got this computer from Howell Engineering who programmed the chip for me originally. It looks like they put a littl glue accross the PROM chip and the circuit board. Do I have to remove this board before I take out the chip? Also, how do the chips come out? Do I just use pliers and pull? I'm afraid to get rough with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't get rough... You can get it out by gently desoldering each leg of the EPROM and then gently prying it out. To do that, you'll need to peel away the hot glue first. Don't overheat the legs or mutilate the carrier though...

Leave everything else on. Just take off the PROM.

Careful with the heat and with static electricity, by the time I got my chip desoldered, it didn't work anymore.

You may want to invest a couple bucks for a solder sucker and make the job a lot easier. Having the right tool always makes the job easier. You can get one from http://www.elexp.com/sdr_0822.htm
