TBI injectors...how do they funtion?
I understand it's just like a speaker driver with a coil but I'm a little confused about it's actual mechanical features. For example...does the injector not care which way the wires are hooked up? I would think that under the holding the injectors open...the injectors would actually be closed, is this correct?
What about when you turned off the car...would the injector be stuck open or is there a spring inside the injectors that shuts them closed when no power going to the coils?
Sorry the complicated questions...just trying to better understand how the fuel is being delivered.

No coils typically only care when there is some other directional device in parallel. (eg diode or directional capacitor)

Injectors are apply power to open. The magnetic force created by the coil pulls the pintle(or other obstruction) out of the orifice to allow fuel flow. A spring seats the pintle when no power is applied.

The plunger is the pintle, and then a physical stop for it's travel, and a spring to return it to it's *off* posistion.
NOW,
you can see why and where Peak and Hold injectors are needed.
As the weight of the pintle increases, you need more magnetic energy to move it. Energy, ie more amperage,
While most saturated injectors start to falter at anything under 1msec at idle, my Peak and Holds operate fine at .8 and less. This is with 55#ers on a lil v6. By flipping to SEFI, I can easily run even larger injectors <g>.
Now where did I put those 92#/hr. ones <G>
