Tachnometer problem! What's wrong with it?

My tach in the guage cluster went weird today. My car only has about 9,000 miles on it so it's not old age. My tach was fine when all of a sudden it's now always pegged at 7,000 RPM. Doesn't move, only when cranking the car. The battery died the day before this happened. The tach was also connected to an MSD 6AL, if that makes any difference? Is there a way to fix the tach, cuz I really don't wanna replace the cluster.

It sounds like you may have fried the tach. You don't have to replace the whole cluster, the tach itself can be replaced. I ended up taking my tach out & installing a 5" Autometer. It is much more accurate & is triggered right off the MSD tach terminal. If the stock tach is not hooked correctly to the MSD it can be fried.

OK, I fixed it, all I did was move it back with my finger and it works good now.
