Electrical Problem even got My Mechanic Stumped!!!

Well, my car's battery just started dying all of a sudden. A new battery would last for 8 hours. Checked all the fuses, in fact disconnected the whole fuse box, and the battery is still draining. That means that none of the factory accessories are draining it.

So what could this be? Could a bad ground to the block drain it? The only thing aftermarket are the gauges and the alarm, could any of this be resposible?

I got my mechanic looking at it now, but maybe some of you guys know something he doesn't.

Thanks for the help

This might sound odd, but when I was having that similiar problem it ended up being my starter.............once I changed it out, everything was fine. You might want to look at that.

That's an idea, but if the whole fuse box was disconnected while trouble shooting, wouldn't that cut the circuit to the starter anyways? Maybe I am wrong.

Let me know and I can call my mechanic and ask him to take a look at that.

Thanks

Don't forget that your main lead is going straight to your starter. Let me know if it fixes it.

I had a similar problem with an old (91) Escort that I had. The battery would not hold a charge, and the battery, alt, etc. all tested as good. After three batterys (replaced by Autozone, gotta love their warrenty!!) I finally figured out that the terminals at the ends of the wires were so corroded that they were not working anymore. Clipped them off and attached new ones, and it worked fine after that.

It turned out the alternator was causing the short. It got replaced and everything is fixed now. Thanks for the help, everybody.
