MAF code problem

I am recieving a code 34 on my car, MAF. Is there any way to test the MAF. Is there anything else it could be.
My runs fine as long as you keep rpms up but when first starting it idles irratically and sometimes stalls. It will lope from 450-1000. rpm. And the SES light comes on right away and doesn't go off, even at highway speed where it seems to be running fine.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanx.

I've heard that if you tap on the maf(lightly)w/a screwdriver while the car is running it'll tell you if the maf is bad--the car's idle will become erratic or even out. If there's no change then the maf is fine.

Hi. Before replacing a MAF unit. I think a person should change the MAF burn-off relay. It costs under $30 and could be the problem.
I learned the why.

Go tap it....if it stumbles, bad sensor...make sure you have NO vaccum leaks, this includes any sensor that would give an indication of engine vaccum, ie map sensor...make sure that isnt cracked, make sure any of the i think 4 vaccum lines are still connected to the plenum or tb and that they are in good condition.
