****! Screwed something up while wiring up guages, alt. doesn't charge.gauges no lite

I was trying to wire up my Autometer guage lights, and one of the lights in the guages was contacting the ground and when I turned the key, the fuse blew.......but at the time I didn't know the guage light was bad....so I put in a new fuse but the guage fuse still didn't work and now my REGULAR guages didn't work (whole dash went black even with new fuses) so I tried wiring directly from the battery to my new guages, and this time when I turned the key on, the red wire from the bad gauge light lit up RED HOT starting smoking and almost caught on fire!! AT that time I kinda started to put two and two together and I took apart the guage light bulb to find that it was stuck to the metal casing from the factory!! @#%#@%$#$@@!!!! So anyways....I fixed that and the guages work fine, but now my regular in dash gauges dont' work anymore, even with all new working fuses, and it appears that my alternater no longer charges cuz I'm only getting 10-11 volts on the guage. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?!??!?! Did I fry something somewhere??? Help please.
