Electronics

I got two problems I need help with:

1st I got my choke and Check engine Lights on after the car is started until I give it gas then they go out.

Is this a code or something else

2nd I have this wire coming off the Positive side of the battery and runs to the Alternator, plus another wire off that that runs down to the starter? or Somewhere down behind the block.

The wire is broken and the car still runs. Not sure what to make of it.

The car is a 1983 Camaro, 305 4 barrel.

Please help
Thanks

Which wire is broken? The little one to the generator, or the big one to the starter? Is it broken all the way, or just has exposed wiring?

The small wire that goes to the Alternator. It is broken all the way

There is a small orange wire that ties into it, that wire runs into the wiring harness.

To be on the safe side, you might want to fix/replace that wire. I'm only going by the wiring diagram here, as I have an 86 and the charging/starting system is a bit different on it. My guess is what is happening is that the generator is charging the battery thru the vehicle wiring harness instead of directly to the battery.

So that wire goes back to charge the battery?

That could be why the Alt meter is at about 10 to 8

But the car will still start

I'll check it out.

I'll let you know, Thanks

The car will still start, but not for long. The wire going to the alternator IS the alternator output to recharge the battery. These units cannot backcharge through the harness. The plug at the top is ignition on feed to alternator to get the field going so it will charge. You have been running off the battery, and that may be why it is throwing a SES light. Fix that wire and you should have 14-16 volts with a little gas pedal.
