is the brake light and the tail light the same bulb? if it is, then how come my tail lights are working, but one of my brake lights isn't.

as far as i know, they are the same bulb. some cars have septrate bulbs. If it is the sam bulb, then why it is doing that is because the brake light part of it requires a brighter light.. Have you ever had a head light go out and have the brights work? and it's the same bulb? Same concept. Just replace the bulb and it shoud work fine

There are two separate filaments in the same bulb. If you look on the bottom of a 2057 bulb, there are two contacts - one for the dim (tail light) filament & one for the bright (brake light) filament. The common terminal for both filaments is the brass base of the bulb.

Here are some current draw figures I measured @ 14.2 volts for a few common bulbs:

Filament Current Draw (Amps)
Lamp Bright / Dim
1157 2.22 / 0.62
2057 2.18 / 0.49
2357 2.26 / 0.61
1034 1.96 / 0.60
