Rear lock

How can I get in my rear hatch? The lock is broken(hammer)wireing is in shambles! Hatch has the pwr option and batt. was disconnected when it locked, so it's still raised some. Tried a screw driver from inside(played w/the locking motor)w/no luck.
Any ideas how to open it?
Thanks!!

From what I remember there is a way to turn something and make the sliding part move up and down. I had the problem on my 87 where it would come up but not down. Can you get a hot wire over to the solenoid you should be able to release the latch that way.

There's no way I can get a wire to the solenoid, the cover is still there. I think I might have to break the cover off(don't want to)and unbolt the motor. Just seems like the hard way to do it. How about if I try to stick a pry bar under the hatch? If I don't break the tail lights, think it'll work?

how difficult would it be to take a battery and reconnect?
i've had to do this several times to mine while traveling across country towing it.

The whole wiring harness was ripped out. I finally got it opened-had to rip of the rear panel and unbolt the power motor.
Thanks to all that replied!
