so how does traction control work?

i'm trying to think what 4th gen cars have that 3rd gens don't that makes traction control possible.. does it require a posi rear end?

Is it just some kind of "slip" sensor that cuts throttle?

I don't suppose there is any reasonable way to put traction control on a car that didn't come with it from the factory.

Hi,
I'm not sure, but I beleive it has something to do with the car using the anti lock brakes independantly to control better. Im probably completely off but I think that makes sense from something I read a while ago.

It basicly applies the brakes to the wheels that slip, so the wheels that grip can catch up. i.e. if you have a FWD car and the R/F wheel is on ice and spinning, it will gently apply the brakes to slow it down, and so that power is transfered to the L/F. If both are spinning, it will slow both wheels down. Traction control is an "add on" to ABS, it isn't seperate. Each wheel's brake can be independantly applied and released.

The forth gen uses timing retard more than anything else. it also will kick back on your throttle, totally computer controlled. It would be too expensive to do an add on
