Speedometer dosnt work! help?
Well its not a new problem but something I would like to get fixed soon.
what should I be looking to track down. I get the code 24 or whatever about the vss but dont know if it is bad or not. How can I test it directly? how can I test at the computer or even up behind the gauge panel where the connector is.
Like what pins or wires and what kind of readings am I looking for?
also is the computer on the passenger side? I havent checked yet.
I know lots of people have had problems but I see a lot with problems because they switched to TPI. Not me Im stock just need to know what/and where to look.

The VSS sender should feed pins B9, and B10 at the ECM. The VSS sender is essentially a hall generator that sends a pulse chain whose frequency is determined by vehicle speed. A hall generator is nothing more than a coil of wire and as a rotating magnet passes by it will generate a voltage across the coil. The ECM picks it up, amplifies and shapes it to be used for the speedo, TCC lock and EGR operation. VSS sender is located at the rear of the trans on the drivers side. It will have two wires coming from it. You can remove it by taking out the one retaining bolt. Put a pan underneath, it will drip some fluid. Many times the sender is OK, the plastic gear gets chewed up. I am pretty sure it is available as a seperate item. Don't overlook corroded plug, or a broken wire.
