Flickering Dash Lights Fixed by Short Circuit OMG

Now I am really worried. I used to have flickering dash lights and headlights (just barely noticeable). Someone said it was the diodes going in the alt.

Well, I had my Dad in the car (88 GTA) and he was messing with the door locks. Anyway, the accesoory fuse blows out, and now each new fuse I put it immediately blows even with no accesories on, engine off. ... AND.... now the flickering has disappeared completely !! It's as if the wiring for the accesories is somehow hooked up with the headlights and dashboard light wiring ???

Sounds like a weird situation, I know, but if anyone has any clues, please let me know.

John

Sounds like the intermittant short that was causing the system voltage to fluctuate just turned into a permanent short. Check out http://www.geocities.com/vtcamaro/Pi...rams/pg116.jpg to see what the 20 ampere accy fuse powers - it's an '85 wiring diagram, but the power distribution should be similar.

Tim, Thanks for the reply. Turns out it was the cig lighter, as mentioned in another post above. Removing the cig lighter has solved the blowing fuse problem and also the flickering light problem, as you suggested it might. Fortunately, I don't smoke.

THIS BOARD RULES.
