Shop around. I know GE makes a brighter version of many bulbs, but cost twice as much. However, never replace a bulb for one that was not intended for the application.

You can buy special halogen ones from places like AutoZone or J.C. Whitney.

When I used to drive tow trucks, I came across some 50-watt bulbs for tow truck emergency lights, but they have the same base as your standard #1156 backup light bulb. They're very bright, and I haven't had any heat or wiring problems with them yet. If you could figure out the right part number, you could get them from www.awdirect.com.

I think the standard bulb is the 1057, which is a 10 watt bulb. You can go to the 2057 for a brighter look. Since smoking my rear taillights I had to go all 2057 and haven't had any problems. By the way, you can just go into any Pep Boys or AutoZone and look up those lights by that part number.
