Speedo broken in '87 Camaro
Speedo broken in '87 Camaro
Well, this is my second post (first one is in the Transmissions section) and my 5th day as the owner of a '87 Camaro RS with a 355/carb motor....
Anyway - when I bought this car (I love it - the wife hates it) it had some things wrong with it, this is one of them:
Not all items in the guage cluster work! The oil pressure doesn't (the previous owner installed an aftermarket one below the dash - so that's ok) and worst of all the SPEEDO doesn't work - needle broken off and missing...
I'm wondering what my choices are and how "difficult" it will be to fix...
1. Can I just replace the speedo guage?
2. How hard is it REALLY to pull the unit (I bought a Haynes book - that's probably all I have to say...)?
3. Is it best to purchase a used cluster?
4. Aftermarket (VDO/Whatever) SPEEDO? Should I use that?
Thanks for any insight you guys can give me.

A speedo repair shop should have a replacement needle. If not, a used cluster usually goes for around $75, or so. The cluster is fairly easy to pull. Press the spring tab to release the speedo cable from the cluster. The speedo is easily removable from the cluster, as well.

check your coil, all those little wires coming out of coil need to be hooked up, I bought a car and the tac and the speedo didn't work, somone told me to check that, and I did and they were not hooked all the way up, make sure there nice and snug and then if its the coil, then that should fix it... Be carful thoe the distributer is touchy
