When i put my bright lights on then all of my lights go out.. WHY?

Last night when i went to put my bright lights on it didnt seem to right. it seemed like i had to hold the switch back longer to get them to work. i put them back on low and then on high again after several tries and then all of the lights started flickering on and off. whats wrong? is the dimm/bright switch broken? How do i fix it?
Thanks for the help,
Alan

Sounds like either the switch is bad. Check the grounds on the head lights. Do all the lights go out or just the headlights?

Also, there's a built-in circuit breaker inside the headlight switch. If you've added extra headlights, or there's some other problem in the circuit, the breaker will turn on and off repeatedly.

If it is the hi/low beam switch causing the problem, the switch is located near the ignition switch, on the steering column.
