Power doorlocks Reverse Polarity????

I got this bulldog keyless entry for my 85 TA and they say in the instructions the door locks are positive so I hooked them up and they dont work. So I got some relays and hooked them up reverse polarity and they work is this right??????

door lock actuators themselves are a reverse polarity setup. applying power with postive on one terminal, negative on the other, locks the door. reversing which wire has positive and which has negative will unlock the doors instead of lock them.

most alarm installers would not tie directly to the actuators though. instead would tap the wires that run from the door lock switches to the door lock relay assembly. such a setup would be known as a "postive trigger" door lock system.

schematics and some other door lock related info are avaliable at http://www.geocities.com/modularmotor/thirdgen
