Guage cluster problems.. what would cause this?
Recently, I upgraded my guage cluster in my car, an '84 Camaro, because my speedometer was broken. So, I swapped in a complete guage cluster from another '84.
During the day, the lights all work fine on it and everything, just like normal. Come nighttime, I turn on my lights, and then things seriously go haywire - only some of the background lights come on, the gas guage goes completely dead, both turn signal indicators come on (and stay on, solid) until I go to signal for a turn, then they blink extremely slowly.. like *blink*.....................................*blink*..................................*blink*. It's extremely annoying. Also, the bright indicator is on when the brights are off, and is off when the brights are on.
I thought maybe it was the new cluster, so I put my old one back in, thinking the new one was probably fried, but then it did the exact same thing the new one did. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or if anyone has any ideas on what I could check? If you need more information, just ask.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Yes, I am almost positive it is from another '84. Plus, the traces and stuff all went to the same places on the connectors, as far as I could tell..
But, when I put my old cluster in, the one that was originally in my car, and made for my car.. it does the same thing..
So I guess I must have fried something.. but what could it be?
Thanks.

Sounds like some of the connections are not making contact, like maybe a ground is open. If you don't have a Helm shop manual, go to www.geocities.com/vtcamaro/wire-diagrams.html & look at the cluster pinouts & check the functionality of all of the signals at the C1 (RH) & C2 (LH) connectors.

Thanks for that link.
Hmm... do you think I should use some dielectric grease on the contacts or something?
