Does the fuel pump??????

I'm trying to do a fuel flow test on my fuel pump on a 92 305 TBI because it is acting like it is failing. When I went to do the test the the fuel pump kicks on for a few seconds like normal but I did'nt get any flow. I have to crank it to get it to flow and then it flows fine. Shouldn't the pump continue to flow until charged when in the ignition is turned on but not actually cranked?????????

Thanks

When you first turn the key "on" the fuel pump will come on for 2 seconds. If you lost a lot of fuel when you disconnected the line, that 2 second prime probably just filled up the empty lines. Once the lines are full (don't let them drain) it should flow a little next time you cycle the key. The 2 second prime isn't to flow fuel, its just to pressurize the system.
