Viper Alarm, Mystery Switches & Lights

I have a few questions all electronics/wiring related so I thought this would be the best place to post.

#1 there is a viper alarm installed on the 92 RS car i just bought, problem is it is in valet mode and there is no red led lite up anywhere that i can see, also i know where the valet switch is but i don't know the model # of the viper so i have no clue which method to use to turn it back on :-( Oh yeah i have the remote and it appears to work too, green light goes on when i hit buttons...

#2 I have a small red led right below my shifter, it doesn't look stock and it lights sometimes when the car is running (sometimes in park sometimes in drive), anyone know of any other Camaro 92 RS's that have that light?

#3 I have two switches and another red led all in a one piece block, right under my headlight pull switch on the left, they look like this
|=======|
|Y R| YS being a yellow switch RS being |S o S| a red switch and o being the red
|=======| led

They looked factory at first but after playing with them and getting no results i pulled em and they fell out easily, the yellow switch wasn't wired, the led and red switch were any ideas to what they are and if they were in any other camaro?

Any reply with any idea about any of this stuff would be greatly appreciated, I know how to use a multimeter so if you have any ideas on how to trace the wires or find out what they are by voltage, without ripping out the dash and shifter console lemme hear them too, thanks!

You should try to find the Viper box... trace those valet switch wires back under the car. I found an alarm box once while doing a Stereo, the owner never had a manual (second buyer). So I emailed Viper, and they sent me the books for "operation" and "install"! Granted, they were photocopies, but still- that's great customer service!

Those switches under your headlight **** don't sound like anything for an alarm to me...maybe some aftermarket fog lights?

The "brain" of the alarm is most likely mounted up under the driver's side dash somewhere. If you can find it, get the model number of the alarm.

The red light near your shifer is very likely to be the alarm LED; maybe it's halfway unplugged or there's a frayed wire, causing it to only work sometimes.

The valet switch, if you can find it, is a small black pushbutton, a little smaller than a pencil eraser. Since a theif could use this button to disarm the system, the alarm installer might have hidden the switch. Look around the driver's kick panel, under the driver's dash, inside the center console, or maybe zip-tied someplace near the fuse box.

Also, the installer might have used the "Ghost Switch" configuration, where one of the factory switches inside the car serves as the valet button. This would be pretty hard to figure out if you don't know which one it is.

Also, you can put Viper alarms in and out of valet using the remote. Therefore, maybe the pushbutton switch was never installed at all.

Are you really sure that all the pieces of the alarm are still in the car? Maybe someone removed it before you bought the car? Look for that brain under the dash, and look for a siren mounted under the hood someplace.

You can reach Directed Electronics, the maker of Viper, at www.dei.com. They have installation and user's manuals available there.

If the alarm's really in valet, then the red LED should be on steady. Also, your power locks should still work from the remote, even if it's in valet.

You wouldn't want to get the alarm working again, only to find out that you can't shut it back off for some reason. Before you start trying to get it out of valet, you should locate the brain and check that the fuses are good and all connectors are plugged in. Make sure you do all this at home, in a legal parking spot, in case the car should become disabled while you're working on it.

When you do find the brain, I can tell you that the LED will have a 2-pin white plug, with one red wire and one blue. The valet button will have a 2-pin blue plug; one wire is gray and the other is gray with a black stripe.

Thanks for the info, I do know where the valet switch is for sure.(The guy there told me he had the alarm off cause it went off whenever you open the door) I was trying to avoid having to drive an hour to the car dealership i bought it at and have them turn it back on but oh well. Also i don't have power door locks and i dont' have fog lights either so i'm puzzled about the switches, hopefully the dealership knows about everything. Thanks for the help
