My headlights are killing my car

When I turn the lights off, the car will shudder, then die. I have the problem with blowing the dash\taillight and headlight fuses periodically, but this new problem has just recently cropped up. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

That thought had crossed my mind. A guy at work told me to disconnect the battery while the car is running, and if it dies, there is definately a problem with the alternator. Think I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

Disconnecting the battery like that is not a good idea. If there is a problem with the voltage regulation, disconnecting the battery's charging load could let the system voltage get way to high, and possibly fry the electronics. A better way is to take the alternator off and have it tested at your local parts store. Alot less trouble and cost then replacing fried ecm or radio etc.
