After installing the stereo on my '87 GTA tpi 350, my car will not start....the starter doesnt turn, nor does it click at all. battery is good and tough. starter has power...I have a slight suspicion that wen i turned my key back in the accessory position it might have done it?
what thing should I be checking for?
I'm kinda stumped guys, please help!!!

Did you have to any drilling. If not look for a pulled wire. Do you have VATS anti-theft. There are postings here on how to bypass the VATS. Your starter solenoid is not engaging. If you working with the 12 volts, look for a popped fuse in the fuse panel. You may have inadvertenly shorted something and caused a fuse to fail that feeds the VATS or starter circuit. Forget VATS, saw you had an 87.

I had the same proble on my 89RS it has the vac system in it and one day after washing my car it would not start I later found out that the wire on the vac system had come lose and the the wire that hooks up to the streering calumn and runs to your starter had also come lose. So I would check all your wireing in and aroud your steering calumn first before you go and buy some part's and only end up wasting your money. It deffenitly sound's to me like a wireing problem.

Hi 87GTA57L.
I bet it's an auto!
You have disturbed the trans immobiliser switch and/or wiring. This runs right alongside the stereo wiring.
There are 2 thick wires tan/white and purple. When the trans is in park or neutral, these are connected together. Try pulling this connector off the trans shifter base and shorting together while trying the key. Check for any wire damage or strain damage.
Hope this helps.
Andy.

Yeah..i had the same problem once, i installed a new head unit in my 88 Firebird, and heh, car wouldn't start. After hearing lots of
from people, telling me my starter was bad, that i had to buy a new ignition system, blah blah blah, i finally just checked out the fuse panel underneath the dash and found a fuse labled "CRANK", it's a small 3A fuse, it was blown.. i switched it out and it has never given me problems. might check that out, hope this helps :-)
