timing for the 86 305 tpi
guys i need some help here lastyear i ran a 15.6 at 92 mph then i had a coolent leak i got the hose changed then i find out that my mechanic played around with the timing he said that it was 4 degrees retard . the thing is now the car pings bad and i run in the 16 's the car only has 38 000 kilometeres there is a hypertech chip in there. can someone please tell me if the timing can be the problem with my car thanks

The best thing to do would to put a timing light on it and check it yourself.....i think there isa tech article on the board somewhere...plus you can find out how to do it from a shop manual....your machanic prob didn't unplug the ESC(is that right?) when he reset your timing and that would throw the whole thing off if he didn't....Good luck
Unplug the ESC wire (brown/black) near the blower motor passenger side of the engine compartment. Set timing between 6 and 12* BTDC. Mine runs best around 9* on premium pump gas with lite intake mods. Turn the distributor with the car running and listen for the best setting. Don't be afraid to play with it some. Have someone else turn off the ignition while you are holding the distributor in the sweet spot and immediately tighten the distributor hold down bolt. Restart, check timing again. Reconnect ESC wire. Disconnect battery to clear the code and enjoy! G ood Luck!!
