Hey Tim !! What is in the Headlight Solenoids?

What is the stuff that they put inside the Headlight Pop-up Solenoids? GM wants $250 apiece for new ones.

The only thing wrong is that the "friction material" inside them is ground up too finely and they slip when they try to pump up.

Does anyone know what this stuff is??

They are little plastic "*****". It is actually a saftey feature. Ford uses them in there window motors, that way if the window gets rolled up with your arm out the window, the ***** will crush before your arm. Unfortunatly, time and wear will also beat the ***** to a pulp. One fix for this, and this is not a reccomendation from me, but it works, is using I think 10mm nuts from the hardware store. Just hope nothing gets jammed in there.

Thanks GM Tech. Coincidentally, last night I figured this out and a friend who words at Auto Zone confirmed this...

Auto Zone sells a Siemen's Window Lift Gear Kit for Ford Power Windows with the three hard-plastic spacers. The spacers are the same plastic spacers that Pontiac uses. The kit is part #84634 and they are about $23 each. Both solenoids now work perfectly. Again Thanks!!!!!!
