Actually in some cases this IS true! I never saw it on V8 cars but some '88 and '89 2.8 MPI cars had both. I think they had a recall or something with problems on these. If it's TPI though, he's pulling your crank!
Your car has a MAP only.

It depends, what year is your L98 from?
If it's 90-92, it's not a mass-air setup... it only has a MAP sensor.. if it's 85-89, then it's a mass-air setup.. although I'm not sure if those had a MAP sensor also, or just a MAF sensor.

Like many of the others replied, it depends on what year your car is. If its 90-92, you have a MAP sensor only. If its 85-89, it has a Mass Air Flow sensor only. 3rd gen f-bodies never had both. Why do you ask about the MAP sensor? Realisticly, the MAP sensor is one of the more reliable sensors, and if the so called "mechanic" says its bad just becuase of a code 33 or so, then you need to move on. Most clueless people think that if a code is set, then that component is bad. Thats where places like AutoZone make alot of there money. You have good instincts to feel ripped off, because it sounds like you are. Take it elsewhere.
