Temp Gauge

My temp gauge is reading off the scale. Will this effect the performance of the car? How could i take care of this little problem?

Engine: LB9
Transmission: 700-R4
Your sensor is probably grounded...check the wires coming from the sensor in the driver's side near the #3 plug. see if the black wire is bare anywhere and touching metal...jiggle the wires/harness and see if that helps. If not just pick up a new sensor.
