Autometer Air/Fuel Gauge help

I bought an Autometer Air/Fuel Mixture gauge from my friend, and wanted to hook it up with the O2 sensor on my 88 GTA. My friend never had the gague hooked up in his car, and he doesn't have instructions either. Neither of us knows how to hook the gauge up properly.

Have any of you ever hooked one of these up?? If so, could you post instructions on how to do it? Or e-mail me??

Thanks,

Phil

Phil,

I tried to scan my instructions for you but my scanner is a piece of crap and decided not to work for me today. But I will tell you exactly what it says for the wiring.

"Red wire: Connect to a fused (5 amp) and switched 12V positive source that is turned on and off with the ignition switch"

"Black wire: Connect to good engine ground"

"Violet wire: Connect to oxygen sensor signal wire. Connect to vehicle wiring harness, not oxygen sensor since some oxygen sensors use shielded wire."

The black and red are simple, what they are saying about the violet wire is to splice into the oxygen sensor signal wire which goes to your ECM, located under the dash board, and NOT to splice directly to the sensor wire. It is actually quite simple to find because the signal wire to your ECM is also violet. If you have any problems let me know.

Also if you want I can photocopy the instructions and mail (snail mail) them to you if you are interested.

Bill

Ah Bill,

Thanks so much for the info. I really appreciate it. I'll just print out what you wrote in your post, and see if that works. If it doesn't, I may need a copy of your instructions.

Thanks a lot!

Phil

I ran the violet from behind the A-pillar, under the windshield(sorta) and spliced into the O2 that way.

The gauge works better if you splice into the O2 wire at the ECM. I found that the gauge doesn't fluctuate as wildly using that method.
