piece of cake dude: measure the ohms on the chip in your key (mine was 640) and buy an identical resistor from radio shack (pack of five, about $.50) drop the panel under your steering column and find the two tiny yellow wires that plug into a harness - can miss them. cut off the harness on the end that does not go to the column, and solder a resistor you bought between the two. done.

LOL. The dude just said he lost his key! I'm sorry, that was just too funny.

You can also replace the chip in the computer with one that doesn't have the VATS stuff on it. But since you mentioned you were going somewhere today, I guess you don't have time to get one.

There are I think 12 or 15 different resistor values (someone here could say for sure). You could get resistors of each value and try one by one until you find the right one. There was a post a couple years back that listed all the values. Sorry I couldn't help more.

thanks JZA. yeah i think its 15.
i might just have to do that.
the vats disables hte injectors...so hte starter jumping theory didnt work. well...i dont know what to do.

also...see my post in tech.

Maybe we can get a list up of the different values of resistors for further vats problems
so far we have 2 of the 15,
mine was 680 ohm and he said his was 640 so only 13 to go.

Another solution would be to purchase a new VATS module & key. The VATS module programs itself to use whatever resistor value it sees the first time it is powered up.
