I want to hook up a hidden kill switch in my car to prevent it from being stolen. now i know i can simply put a switch into the power lead for my hei ignition (the red wire going into the dist cap) but that would still allow the motor to be cranked over. i dont want that...could i just fin the power source going into the ignition switch under the dash, and switch that?? if so, how much current actually goes through it? i dont want to have a massive switch...just something very small and hidden. if anyone has done this before, or has any other methods...please let me know! thanks

ok i just searched this (probably should have done so before posting..) and the neutral safety switch sounds like the best idea, but again, i need to know how much current flows through this wire (to determine the size of the switch) and also verify that the purple wire is what needs to be switched...thanks guys

 

I would assume between 5 & 20 amps depending on the condition and performance of your solenoid.
If you're worried about current then use the switch to trigger a 30amp relay.

I like the delay timer the best. Would let the crook actually drive a little ways before dying... better chance of getting caught.
