custom turn-signal problems
custom turn-signal problems
Tomorrow I will find out if I have any or not.
But my question is, do you anticipate me having any problems using fog lights as blinkers instead of the wussie little 5Watt bulbs on a stock system? I will be wiring up a set of 55W, amber light, fog lights in the stock parking light/turn signal location (I will be ignoring the front-side parking light wire and only using the turn signal wire).
I wonder if the blink rate will stay the same, or if it will increase or decrease.
I wonder if the fuse will blow every time I try to use the turn signals.
I wonder if anyone else has ever done this.
Anybody have any concerns or comments?

I'm just guessing at this, but I don't think that circuit would handle that kind of load very well, either fuses would blow or wires would melt....
anybody know what the wattage capacity is on the turn signal circuitry?
If you don't mind me asking, how come you want blinding turn signals, anyway?

The standard 1157 bulb bright filament draws about 2 amperes, or consumes around 25 watts. I don't believe that doubling the load to about 4.5 amperes should be a problem, however, you will need to change the curent sensing GM flasher (has a blue band around it) out with a standard non current sensing type flasher from any parts store. The fog lights will not be as bright as they should be, if you connect them directly to the harness. If you want them really bright - this goes for head lights, too - use a relay to power them directly from the battery + lead & use the harness to power the relay coil. Also, the stop / hazzard fuse is 20 amperes, so it may be pushing it for that circuit if you have 6 filaments in the rear (3 on each side) that function as brake / turn signals (if you don't use relays). If you have a single brake & turn filament on each side in the rear, the hazzard circuit should be OK (if you don't use relays).
