Is the brake light for the parking brake or is it a brake malfuncion light. Mine doesn't come on with the parking brake so I don't know. Once I left it on while driving and after I smelt brakes the light came on. If its a parking brake light how can I make it work.

i have an 84 z-28 5-speed.
When I pull the parking brake the light comes on.
Alos I'm sure if the brakes were to get low the light would come on then too.
There has to be switch somewhere (I'n not sure exactly where)
that activates the light when the handle is pulled.
I say this because my parking brake doesn't work right now, and my light still comes on.
Try looking in the center console by the parking brake handle.
I think the switch is in there.

 

Yes there is a switch on the parking brake mechanism that grounds the circuit. Check that someone hasn't accidentally cut the line or pulled the connector free. Also check the bulb for the warning light.

 

Where exactly is the parking brake switch? Do you have to remove the console to get to it? I've had the shifter plate off but can't see down or back in there that far.

No one cut the line, it worked fine then the last time I set the brake and took it off the light didn't go off, so I know it's that switch just can't find it, hate to have to take out the whole console and wouldn't think you would have to, but can't see any switch from the shifter plate, somebody has to know where that's at and how to get to it. Bulb is fine I've had the dash out three times now. I don't know but it's driving me nuts with that on all the time. Fluid, brakes and lines are all fine and haven't been messed with. Anyone else know where that is?
