Looking for parking brake switch
I've been trying to find the switch for the parking brake warning light with no luck. My brake warning light just stays on and it's not from my brakes. I know this because the light came on when I first got the beast from putting the parking brake on, brake lines and all brakes are fine, it went off then but now it won't and can't find the switch.
Do you have to take the console out or what? I've had the shifter plate off but can't see down and back that far where the brake handle goes. Bought a Haynes manual which is about worthless and doesn't say crap about the parking brake light switch.
Thanks for any info!

Re: Looking for parking brake switch
No one knows where and how to get to this warning light switch? I've read posts where people are telling someone else to unplug it or plug it in but don't know where it is??
Sorry but this is driving me nuts and this is the first Camaro I've ever owned.
Anyone!

Re: Looking for parking brake switch
It connects near the bottom of the parking brake mechanism. When I switched parking brake units I had to remove the whole console, but maybe you can see it by just taking out the shift plate. When the handle is all the way down, a little tab on the lever is supposed to touch the contact on the switch making the light go out.You might have to take it out to see if that's happening right.

Thank you, Sounds like I'll have to take the console out, tried seeing if it was around that spot with the shifter plate off but can't see enough of it, seems to be to far down and back from there. Thanks, at least now I know where it is!!

Shifter plate, plus the top part of the console. At least i was able to reach down to disconnect the switch. If not, might have to at least lift the lower half to reach.

Thanks 841LE, I'll give that a shot and hopefully that's all I'll have to do. Maybe that tab isn't there anymore or broke off if that's possible, won't know till I can see it.

I took the shifter plate and console top off to access mine. Not to hard to reach in and check. If your going to replace just loosen the whole setup and move it where you need it to do your work.

Re: Looking for parking brake switch
Thanks all, Well had the top part of the console off or at least raised up and checked the switch, but nothing was wrong there. Then I thought about the last time I took the dash out and started thinking that's when the brake light came on, so took the dash out again and think the left plugin there wasn't lined up right so moved it a little from behind as I put the dash back into those plugs and no brake light, yee haw!! And it works when you put the parking brake on now then goes off, I'll get this all figured out sooner or later and a bunch of labor, but no problems now!!!
Got my idle set right now with the help of this forum also, it was way to high so did the paper clip trick with the IAC so no more 1500+ idle, didn't like putting it in gear at that rpm.
Thanks again, Al
